Leeds United can end Aston Villa’s amazing run by recalling influential duo

Following a poor Easter period, Leeds United’s hopes of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League have all but extinguished.

Defeats to Wigan Athletic and Brentford mean their chances of a top-two finish are out of their hands and fate lies with either Norwich or Sheffield United dropping points.

After some inconsistent form, the challenge for Leeds now is to win both their remaining games. If they can claim six points they will at least have a bit of momentum back going into the play-offs should they be forced to settle for them.

Marcelo Bielsa isn’t typically one of shuffling his pack a great deal. The poor Easter period might prompt him to freshen things up slightly though.

Jack Clarke and Kemar Roofe have been two standout performers for the Whites this season. Neither have started a game since February, however.

Roofe, in particular, has 14 goals to his name this season and since returning from injury his omission has been somewhat surprising.

Aston Villa are currently on a run of 10 wins on the spin and Bielsa will need to get creative in a bid to stop them extending their good run. Starting with Roofe and Clarke would give Leeds a sufficient injection of energy and both will be keen to make up for lost time.

Bielsa has nothing to lose now and if automatic promotion has gone, the duo can play themselves into the form ahead of the potential play-off matches.
