Leeds think they've got a chance of signing heartbroken £26m World Cup player, they want updates - journalist
Journalist Ben Jacobs told Give Me Sport that the Whites now think they have got a chance of signing the Belgian international.
They tried hard to sign the forward in the summer but he opted to make the £26 million move to the San Siro, which has not worked out so far.
Now, he has been knocked out of the World Cup with Belgium after they failed to beat 2018 finalists Croatia yesterday.
Leeds want De Ketelaere updates
He said: “There is a feeling at Leeds’ end that they want to be kept abreast of the situation because there is a feeling that perhaps, from Milan’s point of view, he isn’t enjoying things there.
“That might give Leeds an opportunity, potentially only on a loan, to get back inside De Ketelaere’s head and do something in January.
“Paolo Maldini at Milan has said many times that it’s a shame about the situation because he’s suffered since the move. It’s a new environment, it’s different kinds of pressures. He’s there on a five-year contract and he’s only been there a few months.
“So, we have to wait and see whether there’s a window of opportunity for Leeds United to perhaps give De Ketelaere something to think about.”
Leeds do still need a forward and the opportunity to get one they have already scouted so extensively and liked so much will not come up often in January.
That is doubly the case on loan and perhaps if he did come to Elland Road and shine, a permanent deal could be struck.
But there is obviously a reason the Belgian moved to Milan and he would be well within his rights to give that switch more than half a season to come good.
