Sean McGurk has taken aim at Liverpool on Instagram, after Leeds 23’s beat Liverpool 4-0 on Sunday afternoon – following his release back in 2016.
Mark Jackson’s newly-promoted top-tier Under-23 side have made a solid start to life in Premier League 2’s Division 1. 10 points from a possible 15.
Wins over Derby and Crystal Palace was followed by the 23’s best result of the season so far – a 4-0 away win over Liverpool. A brilliant display.
Gelhardt, 19, scored the pick of the goals – slamming a stunning effort into the top corner from all of 30 yards. He got a brace – four in five games.
Pascal Struijk also scored, as did Amari Miller. McGurk was released by Liverpool – and he aimed a dig at Liverpool on Instagram.
McGurk dig at Liverpool: Should Reds rue releasing Leeds talent?
On Sunday’s showing, without a doubt. McGurk starred for Leeds, another exciting display since the red-haired midfielder joined the club from Wigan.
McGurk was released by Liverpool at the age of 14 before joining Wigan, where he made an impression – catching the eye of Leeds in the summer.
An exciting talent, he is excellent on the ball and takes up some brilliant positions in attacking midfield – as a 10, or from out wide.
With a midfield that also includes some proper talents in Sam Greenwood, Amari Miller, Lewis Bate and more – McGurk was always going to shine.
Having been beaten 4-0 and watching McGurk shine in a Leeds shirt, Liverpool will be questioning the decision to let him go.
