Leeds target Renaud Emond boasts same strike-rate as Kemar Roofe

It has been reported by The Sun that Leeds United are one of the teams interested in signing Standard Liege striker Renaud Emond.

Emond could be on the move for just £3 million, according to The Sun. And Leeds are reportedly battling Norwich City for his signature.

It is an intriguing link. Leeds fans would be forgiven for not expecting the Whites to enjoy a particularly busy January. The club only made loan signings during the summer, so it would be a surprise if they sanctioned any marquee moves next month.

But Emond would be an interesting signing. Some may deem a potential move to be a gamble with the Belgian top flight one of Europe’s overlooked markets.

But there is perhaps one statistic that really suggests that the 28-year-old could prove to be a very good signing.

Emond has scored seven goals in 14 top flight appearances this season. Interestingly, that means that he boasts exactly the same strike-rate as a player that Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds know very well.

Emond outscoring Roofe

Kemar Roofe left Elland Road for Anderlecht in a surprise £7 million move in the summer (fee reported by the Daily Mail). And he now appears to be finding his feet in Belgium.

The Englishman has scored five goals in 10 league games. Interestingly, Emond’s minutes per goal ratio is much better, with a goal coming every 130 minutes, while Roofe bags every 178 minutes.

Of course, Emond’s record being better than Roofe’s does not mean that he would be a success in the Championship. But given how good Roofe was for much of his last two seasons at Leeds, perhaps there is reason for real optimism.

It is perhaps an indicator that Emond could prove to be an inspired signing for the Whites – particularly with his asking price said to be less than half what Roofe was sold for.
