Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move to sign PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo over the last few months, and the Dutchman currently has more goals+assists than Erling Haaland.
The Whites tried long and hard to sign the PSV star in the summer. Club owner Andrea Radrizzani even tweeted that his side are working on a deal to bring Gakpo to Elland Road, but a deal did not materialise.
Reports have since claimed that Leeds could make a move in January, but Gakpo may just be out of their reach now.

Leeds target Cody Gakpo now has more goals+assists than Erling Haaland
Gakpo was absolutely outstanding for PSV last season. His brilliant performances caught the eye of a number of top clubs in Europe, but his numbers this campaign are on a whole new level.
Since the start of the season, Gakpo has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in just 17 appearances in all competitions. That’s 24 direct goal contributions already, which is a truly stunning return for a 23-year-old.
Manchester City superstar Haaland, who in many people’s eyes is the best player in the Premier League at the moment, has directly contributed to 23 goals in all competitions so far – one less than Gakpo.
We’re definitely not comparing the two here, Haaland is clearly on a different level to Gakpo. However, the Dutchman’s numbers show that he’s a truly spectacular talent as well.
He will surely be a wanted man again in January.

TBR View:
Gakpo is a sensational player. He can score goals, create chances and is hugely versatile as well. It’s no surprise at all that Leeds were so keen to sign him, but their hopes may just have ended now.
The 23-year-old, branded as ‘perfect’, has impressed everybody with his performances this season. He’s now almost certain to be in the Dutch squad for the World Cup next month, and he could well be a star there.
If Gakpo continues his brilliant form until January, multiple big clubs will try to sign him. He’ll surely have numerous lucrative offers in front of him, and it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll pick Leeds over some of the bigger European sides.
It will be interesting to see what will happen with Gakpo in the coming weeks and months, but as things stand, Leeds’ chances of signing him look extremely slim.
