Sam Greenwood has posted on his Instagram story as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery, following an excellent start to life at Leeds United as he continues to shine for the club’s Under-23 side.

Greenwood, 18, joined Leeds in the summer from Arsenal – with the Whites paying £3million (Standard) to lure the England Under-18 international to Elland Road. He has since scored five Premier League 2 goals in just four outings.

That included a hat-trick against Sunderland, but the young attacker then suffered a blow after picking up an ankle problem while on international duty. It has since seen Greenwood undergo ankle surgery, which he confirmed as successful.

Now, Greenwood has posted a further update on the weekend, moments before the Under-23 side went level on points with league leaders Middlesbrough after a 4-1 win over Palace. He stated that he is ‘nearly there’.

TBR’s view – Greenwood return a boost for U23’s, and first team?

Greenwood’s form is likely to have seen him already training with the senior side, especially after recent reports claimed Crysencio Summverville, Jack Jenkins and Niall Huggins all being promoted – as per Leeds Live.

Rodrigo was signed to rival Patrick Bamford up front but the latter’s stunning form sees him retain his place. It means Rodrigo has been used in midfield, leaving Leeds without an out-and-out striker on the bench. Greenwood could be that man.
