Leeds striker Patrick Bamford needs to justify his £10mil price tag

Leeds United have to be considered one of the pre-season favourites for promotion in the Championship next season, as manager Marcelo Bielsa looks to settle the score after the last campaign.

The Yorkshire giants were third in the league last season and eventually lost in the play-off semi-finals to end the dream of a top-flight return.

They fortunately have Bielsa at the helm at Elland Road next season and it’s likely to mean they continue to play an eye-catching brand of football.

Leeds created so many goalscoring chances and a lack of clinical finishing in the penalty area was perhaps the aspect letting them down.

They need their attackers to come to the fore and Patrick Bamford is a man that should come under pressure to step up.

Bamford scored 10 goals in 25 games across all competitions last season, which was a decent return considering his injury problems.

But the left-footed striker cost up to £10million (BBC) and some of his finishing was poor at times.

Bamford is someone capable of scoring 20-plus goals in a season and that needs to happen next year to boost promotion chances.

The 25-year-old should be at the peak of his power and motivated to edge out teammate Kemar Roofe for the number one centre-forward position.
