Leeds star Summerville says he 'felt sorry' for Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville has claimed that he felt sorry for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk after scoring against him last weekend.

The Whites went into the game at Anfield last Saturday on the back of four consecutive defeats in the Premier League. Many felt it’ll be five in a row, but 21-year-old Summerville helped them pick up all three points.

Leeds star Summerville says he ‘felt sorry’ for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool have had an awful season so far.

The Reds have won just four of their first 12 games in the Premier League and are already 15 points behind league leaders, Arsenal.

Van Dijk hasn’t looked anything like himself either. He has probably made more mistakes this season alone than he has in the last three, which is just unbelievable.

Summerville was asked about his winner at Anfield last weekend, and he claimed he ‘felt sorry’ for his fellow countryman, Van Dijk.

He said on The Official Leeds United Podcast: “He (Van Dijk) is the captain of the first team of the Dutch squad. So, for me, it felt like he’s just the captain. I just realised it after the game!

“In the game, I was like I don’t care who I am up against, but after I realised like: ‘Woah, I just did it to him’. I got respect for him but on the pitch, everyone wants to win, so I feel sorry for him!”

That’s the perfect mentality to have and Leeds fans will absolutely love Summerville.

Even Van Dijk would’ve have been impressed with his young compatriot, but the £75 million (BBC) man, for sure, wouldn’t have been happy with his team’s display against Leeds last weekend.

It really a shock to everyone that Liverpool are where they are at the moment. Nobody knows what’s going on anymore, but Jurgen Klopp has to find a way to turn things around ASAP.

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur next and it will not be an easy game. However, if Van Dijk can keep Harry Kane quiet, the Reds should come away with a victory.
