Leeds United’s Under-23 side earned a point away at Fulham on Monday afternoon having already gained promotion to the top tier of Premier League 2 – and Sam Greenwood has compared a teammate to Kylian Mbappe.
A 2-1 win against Aston Villa earlier this month saw Leeds secure their place as champions of Premier League 2’s second tier, prompting mass celebration. It is a remarkable achievement, given it is Leeds’ first season in PL2.
Now, they will be among the best sides in reserve-team football, including Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and both Manchester clubs. They still had two games to play following promotion, starting on Monday.
Greenwood took his tally to 10 goals for the PL2 season – as the ex-Arsenal striker swiveled with his back to goal before firing a right-footed effort into the back of the net. Crysencio Summerville also impressed from the flanks.
Summerville, 19, a summer signing from Feyenoord, has been brilliant for Mark Jackson’s side when fit – scoring five and creating six in 11 PL2 outings. His form saw him earn a place on the bench for Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Man United.
Plenty responded to Summerville’s post on Instagram following his Monday outing, including Greenwood who compared the pocket-sized winger with Mbappe – by commenting the PSG star. Ian Poveda also responded.
