Leeds star Rasmus Kristensen impresses in famous Denmark win

Leeds United fans will hope that Rasmus Kristensen received a big lift ahead of his Elland Road return after a superb display for Denmark in their victory over France on Sunday.

It is fair to say that Kristensen has had a mixed time since arriving at Leeds. He has produced some colossal moments. His last-ditch tackle against Wolves and a goalline block against Everton enhanced the idea that the right-back could become a cult hero.

However, he has also been beaten too easily on a number of occasions. And there have been some costly mistakes.

But there have been glimpses which have shown why Jesse Marsch wanted to be reunited with the Dane in the summer. And he has provided a further indication of the quality he does possess while away on international duty.

Kristensen was part of the Denmark side which beat France in Copenhagen. And judging by the statistics alone, he was one of the standout performers.

He won five tackles, made five clearances and three interceptions, according to Whoscored. In each category, no player on the Danish side managed to make more.

When you consider the quality France had in attack – the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud started for the world champions – Denmark’s win will surely hand Kristensen’s confidence a real boost heading into a crucial part of the season for Leeds.

Kristensen impresses for Denmark

Kristensen faces a potential battle for his spot in the Leeds side in the coming weeks. Luke Ayling made his long-awaited return from injury before the international break.

And while it proved to be a disappointing day for Leeds, Ayling did manage to impress.

Kristensen therefore, cannot afford to not step up. Performances like the one on Sunday should help keep the 25-year-old in the side moving forward.
