Well, it wasn’t exactly the home debut Jesse Marsch might have envisaged as his Leeds United side were hammered by Aston Villa at Elland Road last night.
Steven Gerrard’s men simply had too much for Leeds and it was a hugely frustrating night on the whole for Marsch and his underperforming side. After last week’s loss at Leicester felt more positive than negative in an odd way, this one against Villa certainly didn’t.

Leeds were second best throughout and their players, even the better ones, failed to deliver and cut frustrated figures throughout the 90 minutes. And that frustration boiled over at the full-time whistle too, as star winger Raphinha was spotted storming straight down the tunnel at full-time.
Clearly annoyed on the night, Raphinha didn’t take the time to do the usual clapping of fans or engage with the away team. In fact, he was pretty much straight off the pitch for those eagle-eyed viewers watching on Amazon Prime.
TBR’s View: Raphinha Not Delivering To His Usual Standards
We all now the talent Raphinha has in the locker. On his day, he’s as good as anyone in the league in wide areas and has got Leeds out of jail more than once.
However, last night he wasn’t quite up to that high standard he’s set. Sure, he was probably Leeds’ most dangerous player as he often is. But he wasn’t quite up to his usual billing, which has seen the likes of Jamie O’Hara label him as ‘brilliant’ at times this season.
If Leeds are to get out this mess they’re in, then Raphinha will need to find his form properly.
