Mateusz Klich told the Yorkshire Evening Post back in March 2019 that he believed fellow Polish midfielder Mateusz Bogusz would eventually overtake him and become a better footballer – but that is yet to materialise.
Klich, 29, continues to be one of Leeds United’s most consistent players under Marcelo Bielsa. Indeed, the former FC Twente and Wolfsburg star has been included in all 83 Championship matches that the Argentine boss has taken control of.
In his shadow, is teenage starlet Bogusz. The Poland Under-21 international joined Leeds in January 2019 and instantly made a stunning impact in the club’s Under-23 side, scoring goals and looking like a real find in the middle of the park.
Klich, who is said to be close to Bogusz at Thorp Arch, made a prediction about the Polish teenager – claiming one day that he would become better than he is, during an interview with the Evening Post.

“It’s not like I can give him any advice because he is 17 and he is probably going to be better than me,” Klich said.
Fast forward 12 months, and Bogusz is yet to challenge Klich for a place in the Leeds senior side – let alone become a better player. This season, Bogusz did eventually make his Leeds debut – in the Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke.
But Bogusz has failed to add to his solitary appearance, remaining an unused substitute in just five of Leeds’ 37 Championship fixtures this season. Time will tell if he does become better than Klich, but right now, he has failed to do so.
