Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has arguably been Aston Villa’s best player this season and his form continued on the international stage for Scotland on Sunday – prompting reaction from West Ham and Leeds stars on Instagram.
McGinn, 24, failed to prevent Scotland being beaten by Russia 4-0 away from home last week. Steve Clarke’s side were tasked with putting things right, with a comvicing win over San Marino on Sunday evening.
Aston Villa star McGinn opened the scoring for his country, getting on the end of Ryan Christie’s low cross to glance the ball home. Some woeful goalkeepers from the San Marino goalkeeper handed McGinn the easiest of chances for his second.
With Scotland 2-0 up after 27 minutes, Clarke’s side played with more freedom. He made it a first-half hat-trick, after Stuart Findlay headed down a corner. He posted on Instagram after the first hat-trick of his career.
Scott McTominay’s shot hit the bar, before Lawrence Shankland tapped in to make it four. Kilmarnock defender Findlay scored from a superb corner, before Stuart Armstrong scored the best of the lot with a free-kick to made it six.
West Ham star Robert Snodgrass, who played for Aston Villa the season prior to McGinn joining and combined with McGinn for Scotland – as well as Leeds star Barry Douglas applauded McGinn on Instagram.
