Leeds signing Ryan Sessegnon could give Celtic ideal chance to sign Barry Douglas

Leeds United are today being linked with a move for Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon, in a move which could help Celtic capture one of their reported targets.

The Whites are looking to add Sessegnon to the ranks at Elland Road, with a report from Sussex Live claiming the former Fulham man was now a target for both Leeds and Brighton.

And while on the surface that might look like it has nothing to do with Celtic, it could well help the Bhoys in their pursuit of Leeds defender, Barry Douglas.

The Scot has been linked with a move to the Scottish champions in recent weeks. Although Marcelo Bielsa appeared to play down that talk this week, insisting Douglas could be an important player.

But if Sessegnon does arrive, surely this opens the door for Douglas to secure a move to Parkhead?

Celtic need a left-back, Douglas won’t sit around if someone else comes in

The problem Douglas has here is that he is already down the pecking order a bit at Elland Road. Stuart Dallas has started the season in brilliant form while Gjianni Alioski can also slot into that role.

If Sessegnon is brought in, there is little point in Douglas sticking around, even if he does love it in West Yorkshire.

The chance to play for Celtic probably won’t come around again. At 31, it’s the perfect chance for him to go and get one more good contract and play regular football at a high level, including European nights.

So, while talk of a move might be being played down by Marcelo Bielsa, the time could be coming for Neil Lennon to make his move and land the former Wolves star.
