Leeds should take advantage of Josh Maja’s contract situation at Sunderland

With just over half a season remaining on his contract, Sunderland fans will be increasingly worried about the future of Josh Maja.

This season, Maja has stepped forward and played an integral role in Sunderland’s promotion push.

With 12 goals this campaign, he is the leading scorer at The Stadium of Light.

And the 19-year-old’s tally of 11 league goals places him third in the League One scoring charts.

Sunderland are desperate to keep the talented teenager, who is thriving in a central striker role.

But with his contract expiring at the end of the season, there will undoubtedly be several clubs chasing a cut-price deal in January.

Sunderland will surely be making it their priority to sort out an extension before the transfer window reopens in the new year.

But if they fail to come to an agreement on extended terms, then Leeds United should be pushing ahead with this deal.

Maja is one of the most promising strikers in the Football League and he has already proven he can score goals at senior level.

The London-born striker would provide good cover for Kemar Roofe in the short-term and be one to watch for the future at Elland Road.

There are bound to be many clubs chasing Maja this January, but Leeds should enter the race for his signature.
