Leeds should rival West Ham for Sasa Kalajdzic after 2019 interest

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta would be forgiven for starting to put a bit more thought into the club’s summer plans with a second season in the Premier League looking to be on the cards.

It remains to be seen which areas of the squad Marcelo Bielsa will want to strengthen. But it should come as little surprise if some of the names on the club’s wishlist are not new additions to the radar by any means.

Players such as Ben White and Robin Koch attracted Orta’s attention long before they ended up at Elland Road. So it will be interesting to see if Leeds target some who have already been linked in the past.

And one of the names they should perhaps have their eye on is Sasa Kalajdzic amid reports linking the 23-year-old with a move to West Ham in the last few days.

The Daily Mail reported at the weekend that the Hammers want the £15 million-rated Stuttgart forward, who has scored 12 goals in 23 Bundesliga games.

His record is all the more impressive given that he has started just 13 times. And he is a player that Leeds were reportedly looking at back in 2019.

Leeds should take another look

Another report from the Daily Mail suggested that the Whites were keen on the striker, who has since made his debut for Austria.

He stands at 6ft 6ins, and he is a threat from set-pieces. But he is also a player who can make clever runs or drop deeper to create spaces in behind for his teammates.

With Rodrigo predominantly playing as a number 10 since arriving at Leeds, Bielsa may want further depth up front in case Patrick Bamford does suffer any problems with injury at any stage.

For £15 million, Kalajdzic could be a very shrewd signing.

But then, Orta may already suspect that.
