Leeds should move for Leonardo Spinazzola, he's perfect at left-back for Bielsa

Leeds United are looking for a left-back this summer it seems, and Euro 2020 might have thrown up the perfect one for them in Leonardo Spinazzola.

The Italian defender has been one of the standout performers in the tournament so far. Not one of the glamour names picked to be a star prior, the left-back has shown his worth for Italy throughout.

Last night, it was Spinazzola’s ball for Enrico Chiesea which got the Azzuri the lead against Austria. The Roma defender has played his part in helping Italy to a record 31 consecutive wins. This, despite him only actually have the 17 caps himself.

And while Leeds search for a new left-back, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone better in world football to fit Bielsa’s style.

A new Celtic era begins as Ange Postecoglou arrives in Glasgow

Gjanni Alioski is yet to sign a new deal and could leave Elland Road. Stuart Dallas, although adept at full-back, looks so much better in midfield.

It goes without saying, then, that it’s an area for improvement for the Whites if they want to progress and improve next term.

Spinazzola to Leeds would be dreamland for Bielsa

The Italian’s Euros performances are a surprise to those in England. But in reality, those over in Italy know all about him.

Spinazzola has been a regular for Roma. It’s no surprise to see him bombing down the left for the Azzuri. He contributed eight assists last season, and added two goals to the mix as well.

His single assist last night was more than he’s deserved in this Euros. While he’s defensively stable as you’d expect, it’s going forward that makes him ideal for Leeds.

Playing for Bielsa requires energy on the wings. It requires a commitment to the cause, and also requires quality in the delivery. Spinazzola seems to have all those things in abundance.

Spinazzola has, per Whoscored, averaged 2.3 successful dribbles per game in this Euros. For a small comparison, that’s more than Lorenzo Insigne in the Italy side.

There are always players who emerge in a tournament who clubs inevitably end up sniffing around. When it comes to Leeds, Spinazzola needs to be that player.
