Leeds should hijack West Brom loan swoop for Newcastle speedster Murphy

Championship promotion-chasers West Bromwich Albion want to take Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy on loan until the end of the season, according to the Express and Star.

They report that Darren Moore has eyed up the Magpies man as a replacement for Harvey Barnes – who shone for the Baggies in the first part of the season before being recalled by Leicester.

West Brom apparently like that Murphy can play on both wings as well as in the number 10 role, and the fact that he earned his move to Newcastle on the back of an impressive 2016/17 season in the second tier, where he netted nine league goals for Norwich from his wide position.

Another promotion-chasing club who are in need of additional spark are Leeds United and while they look set to bring in Daniel James, the deal has not been confirmed yet.

Even if James comes through the door, Leeds could do with another versatile option who is capable of providing pace and goals, because the likes of Jack Harrison have not quite hit the heights so far.

Murphy’s ability to play just off the front could come in handy as well, and he is likely to have a point to prove after a frustrating season with the Magpies.

It would also be a good blow for Marcelo Bielsa to land by convincing a player to shun a promotion rival and come to Elland Road; and if Murphy recreates his Norwich form, he’ll be a real coup.
