Leeds should eye loan for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga

Leeds United still look a centre-back short going into the new season and should try bring in a new defensive recruit in the remainder of the transfer window.

With Pontus Jansson departing Elland Road, it leaves the Whites potentially vulnerable at the back and they need another option in the heart of their backline.

The Whites should try tap into their connections with Tottenham, who they sold Jack Clarke to before he returned to Yorkshire for a season-long loan.

Spurs have had a number of individuals come through their academy ranks in recent times and defender Japhet Tanganga is someone that has started to make a name for himself this summer.

Tanganga has featured in pre-season games against Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus so far this summer, where he’s more than held his own and shined in defence.

The 20-year-old looks a future star with potential to succeed in the Premier League, but is yet to make his senior debut in a competitive game and the competition for places in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is tough.

Leeds should make contact with Spurs and see if they would be open to sending Tanganga out on loan for the first time.

He’s someone that needs to start playing regular football and a campaign in the Championship would certainly help his development, rather than be on the fringes of the Spurs squad.

The centre-back would also be a real coup for Leeds, as he’s extremely composed in possession and has a tremendous range of passing.

Tanganga has been able to mix it with the world’s elite, albeit in pre-season games, and would be a major hit at Elland Road.
