Leeds United went close to promotion in the Championship this season, but just missed out with a third-placed league finish and lost in the play-off semi-finals.
But Marcelo Bielsa will stick around for another year at Elland Road and he’s got the core group of players that can be right in the mix for the next campaign.
The Yorkshire giants just need a couple of fresh faces to strengthen the squad and they should be in with a shout.
One area the Whites should look to bolster is in midfield, where they just ran out of steam at the end of the season and lacked legs.
Leeds should eye a move for available midfielder Mo Diame, who Newcastle United have confirmed (official website) will be leaving St James’ Park when his contract expires at the end of June.
The 31-year-old will be available on a free transfer and Bielsa should plot a raid.
Diame is a powerhouse that plays in the centre of the park and has the energy to fit in with Bielsa’s style well.
The Senegalese enforcer can play the defensive role in front of the back four and is a tireless worker.
His 239 Premier League appearances during his career highlights his quality, so tempting him to drop down to the Championship may be the only sticking point.
But Diame is out of contract this summer and Elland Road is surely an attractive option for many players to consider.
