Leeds United should consider a move for Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick this summer.

The Whites can start preparing for another campaign in the Championship and should be just a couple of additions away from promotion to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team finished third in the league season, before losing out in the play-off semi-finals.

But they should get over the line with a deeper squad next year and they need some reinforcements at centre-back.

Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper are the preferred combination in the heart of defence, but they need more options.

Leeds should consider a move for available defender Elphick, who has been released by Villa (official website).

The 31-year-old has become a free agent this summer and surely there will be plenty that see him as an attractive option to snap up.

Elphick is a towering defender that would certainly add some real depth at Elland Road next year and he could compete for a spot in the starting XI.

The English centre-back hasn’t got much of a chance during his three-year spell at Villa, but is consistent defensively and also enjoyed spells at Reading and Hull City.

He’s someone that can be relied upon in the Championship and the type of steady face that would help Bielsa’s squad if they want to return to the Premier League.
