With Leeds United back in the Premier League, the Elland Road contingent will be looking to bolster the team so as to hit the ground running in the top flight.

One player who has recently been linked with the Whites is Glasgow Rangers attacker Ryan Kent, arguably one of the top players at Ibrox.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a bright season on loan at Rangers from Liverpool in 2018-19, scoring six goals and registering six assists in 23 Scottish Premiership appearances.

“Now he is at Glasgow Rangers and that works really well because Ryan is a fantastic football player and still very young,” Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said in January 2019.

This prompted Steven Gerrard to splash out a reported £7million for the player last September, and he was tipped to be a game-changer in the Ibrox side’s quest for title number 55.

While 2019-20 ended up being a somewhat disappointing campaign for Kent, he has hit the ground running this time round, netting two goals from four league games.

Gerrard told BBC Sport on Friday that Leeds had contacted Rangers over Kent but said their opening bid was “strongly rejected” and sought to make it clear he is “not for sale”.

Ibrox legend Barry Ferguson, meanwhile, also spoke of the bid for the “seriously talented” player who “has not yet fulfilled all of his potential”, in conversation with the Daily Record.

“Rangers would be crazy to even contemplate letting him go at that price because he’s a £20m player in the making and I truly believe he’s ready right now to take his game to another level,” he added.

With Leeds now in the Premier League, they have the potential to make him a £20million player right away, as such a fee wouldn’t exactly be out of their budget, and likewise, Rangers might find it difficult to resist such an offer.

Given Kent’s talent, experience, age, potential and versatility – he can play on the wings, attacking midfield and even as a second striker – he would be a great fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
