Report: Leeds to announce major signing soon; player already at Elland Road
Leeds United will announce the signing of Barcelona defender Junior Firpo this week, with the player already arriving at Elland Road for his medical.
That’s according to a report from The Athletic yesterday, who claim Firpo is now in England and ready to sign for the Whites.
Leeds are expected to pay around £13m for Firpo. The left-back will arrive from Barcelona after just failing to make the grade at the Camp Nou.
Despite making over 40 appearances for Barca, Firpo’s main success in La Liga came with Real Betis. His performances there have caught the eye of Marcelo Bielsa, who was desperate for a new left-back this summer.
Firpo will likely become first-thoice at Elland Road. Gjanni Alioski has failed to sign a new deal, leaving a spot wide open in the first XI.
Leeds’ success last season was something to behold. But they cannot afford to stand still and they needed new additions this summer.
Signing someone like Firpo should bring extra quality and fresh impetus to the squad. At the end of the day, you don’t end up with Barcelona for nothing.
The move for Firpo has been in the works for some time now. Just last week it was claimed a medical was planned. That now seems to be happening.
Firpo made waves in La Liga by becoming the first Dominican born player to play in the country. A unique trait that will keep him in the record books in Spain.
Leeds fans, then, will be excited to see the arrival of Junior Firpo.
