Leeds reportedly want Premier League star that Tweeted ‘Bielsa doint bits’ in 2018

Leeds are reportedly considering a move to sign Crystal Palace’s experienced left-back Patrick van Aanholt on a free transfer as they look to bring cover on the left side of the defence – and his Tweet on Marcelo Bielsa from 2018 will surely intrigue fans.

The Whites are expected to be after a left-sided defender with Gjanni Alioski remaining out of contract this summer. The 29-year-old was poor against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, and Turkish site Milliyet claim Alioski has rejected a new deal.

The Whites have been strongly linked with Brest defender Romain Perraud, who has had a hand in eight goals during his 27 Ligue 1 outings. The Mirror claim van Aanholt – also out of contract this summer – has emerged as a target in the summer.

A 12-time Netherlands international, van Aanholt has clocked up more than 200 Premier League appearances and that experience is a huge quality – especially in a Leeds side lacking in it. His Tweet from 2018 shows he is a fan of Bielsa.

TBR’s view – van Aanholt would be a top signing for Leeds

Yes, he is 31 this summer, but the ex-Chelsea man is an established performer in the Premier League. He is able to score goals and create them, but also remain defensively solid. He has bags of pace, and can play on the left wing, too.

All of that, on a free, is surely worth overlooking the player’s age. But if Leeds are to sign van Aanholt, they will need a younger player to act as competition. Leif Davis is a fringe player, but perhaps Perraud and van Aanholt would solve the left-back issue?
