Leeds United are reportedly rivalling Everton in the race to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero this summer – and it comes just weeks after Simon Grayson predicted the Argentine stopper to move to Elland Road.
Romero, 33, has been in excellent form when used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – keeping 11 clean sheets in 15 and conceding just four goals. He is in the final 12 months of his contract, but United have the option of another season.
ESPN claim Everton are looking to add competition to England number one Jordan Pickford while Leeds are looking to bring in a second goalkeeper after completing a permanent move for Illan Meslier.
Back in May, former Leeds boss Grayson was quizzed about a potential move to Elland Road for Manchester United star Romero – and suggested the 96-time Argentina international would not be out of Leeds’ reach.

“If Leeds get back to the Premier League, playing for the club is an exciting prospect for anybody. They’ll attract players from all over – regardless of whether they’re Argentinian or playing for Manchester United.
“Getting in front of the Elland Road faithful and working for Bielsa is a massive proposition. It won’t be an issue attracting players,” Grayson continued during an interview with the Daily Star.
TBR’s view – Romero move unlikely
That is because, even if £70,000-a-week Romero (Sun) is keen on a move – United will hardly look to sell him. David De Gea remains the club’s number-one goalkeeper, while Dean Henderson is on loan at Sheffield United.
But whether Manchester United look to sell De Gea and bring in Henderson, or send Henderson out on loan again, remains to be seen. What is certain, is that both players will not be at United next season.
Indeed, both will fancy themselves as number one goalkeepers – meaning a back-up, or Romero, is still required.
