Leeds United are reportedly one of six Premier League clubs considering a move to sign Ryan Fraser following the Scottish winger’s Bournemouth release – and Gordon Strachan once claimed “he’s not scared of anybody.”
Fraser, 26, left Bournemouth on June 30 after choosing not to play for the Cherries beyond the end of his contract in order to remain fit ahead of a potential move this summer. However, things have not gone to plan.
Initially, Fraser was being linked with a £100,000-a-week contract at the likes of Arsenal or Tottenham. Now, 90Min claim Leeds, West Brom, Fulham, Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton want to sign the tricky winger.
Having just had a hand in 11 goals in 29 Premier League appearances during 2016-17, then-Scotland boss and Leeds legend Strachan was full of praise for Fraser – claiming he is in the mould of a Dortmund, or a Tottenham player.
“Ryan is feeling good about himself,” Strachan told the Herald. “You think, ‘wow, he’s not scared of anybody’. He’s a modern-day footballer, like the Dortmund and Tottenham guys, who close down and pressure people.”
TBR’s view – Fraser would be a sensational signing for Leeds
That is, despite Leeds boasting plenty of options out wide in the form of Jack Harrison, Gjanni Alioski, Helder Costa, Stuart Dallas and Pablo Hernandez. Leeds lack Premier League experience.
Only Adam Forshaw, Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Costa have played in England’s top tier. Fraser has 120 outings in the Premier League to his name and that could really help the Whites. On a free, he is a no-brainer.
