Leeds reportedly want loan for Chelsea star that was praised by Kyle Bartley for his work rate in 2020

For Leeds to want a player, it says a lot about that person’s stamina and work rate. Marcelo Bielsa will not have you if you are unable to work your absolute socks off. Leeds are reportedly keen on Conor Gallagher, and a verdict from Kyle Bartley is proof he has the stamina to suit Bielsa’s side.

Football London report that Leeds are in talks to land the 21-year-old Chelsea midfielder on loan. The England Under-21 ace starred for West Brom alongside Bartley last season, despite the Baggies suffering relegation. Leeds are not the only ones interested, with Crystal Palace keen too.

Gallagher certainly caught the eye for his hard-working performances in midfield and while the Baggies went down, Gallagher got pass marks. Speaking in November 2020 on West Brom’s website, ex-Leeds defender Bartley gave a glowing verdict on Gallagher – and his work rate.

“Conor’s a great lad, great player and we talk about work rate and he’s right up there every single week in terms of distance, high-intensity runs and is a breath of fresh air,” Bartley said last season, as per the Baggies page. Now, Leeds could add him into their midfield options in the coming months.

Why Gallagher is perfect for Leeds, amid Bartley comments

Leeds have sorted their left-back problem out. They look set to sort their back-up goalkeeper situation out too. But now, they need to sort out a lack of options in the middle of the park – and cover for Kalvin Phillips. But do they really need two bodies? Or does it make sense just to sign one player.

Surely the latter. Bringing in a holding midfield that can also play slightly further forward is the ideal addition. Gallagher is naturally a number four, but his ball-playing skills and work rate allows him to be a terrier, a box-to-box midfielder. If Leeds can get him, even on loan, it is a brilliant signing.
