Leeds United are reportedly rivalling two Premier League sides for Reading midfielder John Swift ahead of the summer window – and Marcelo Bielsa’s previous comments about the no.10 will excite Leeds supporters.
Swift, 25, has been in stunning form for Reading this season – having a hand in 16 goals during his 41 Championship appearances this season. He has scored six goals himself, while also creating 10 more for the Royals.
Despite the former England Under-21 and Chelsea youth player’s excellent form, Reading only managed to climb to a mediocre 14th place in the Championship. His contract has entered its final two years at the Madjeski Stadium.
The Reading Chronicle claim that Leeds and Sheffield United are both interested in signing Swift, while a new report from the same outlet state that Aston Villa are keen. Bielsa raved about the midfielder earlier this season.
“Swift is a great player, I value him a lot,” Bielsa said, as per Get Reading in February. “He is a player who appears suddenly in attack and the same in transition between defence and attack, but especially when he passes from the defence to the attack.”
TBR’s view – Bielsa praise is enormous
Especially given that Bielsa rarely discusses an opponent’s player. Swift is the ideal kind of player that Leeds could do with in the Premier League, too, given Mateusz Klich is yet to find himself a permanent partner in midfield.
With Leeds said to be interested, surely Bielsa’s public praise of Swift suggests that Leeds could really try and sign the former Chelsea man in the coming months? The transfer window opens on Monday.
