Leeds reportedly want £16m-rated star that Thierry Henry raved about in January

Leeds United are reportedly battling bitter rivals Manchester United for Brest midfielder Romain Faivre this summer with a fee of £16million said to be enough for the impressive ace – and Thierry Henry’s verdict from January will excite supporters.

Faivre, 22, has impressed with Ligue 1 side Brest since joining the club in the summer of 2020 – from Monaco, where he worked under Thierry Henry during the latter’s ill-fated spell as manager. He has scored five goals in 28 Ligue 1 games.

French side Jeunes Footeux have claimed that Leeds, Manchester United and three other German clubs are interested in Faivre – in the form of Dortmund, Leverkusen and Gladbach. It is believed a fee of £16million will be enough for Faivre.

Only in January, Henry raved about Faivre. Having worked briefly with the midfielder at Monaco, Henry knows more than most what Faivre is all about – and the current Monreal manager believes he is capable of breaking down opposition defences.

“Romain Faivre. His success does not mean that I was right or wrong. These are elements that I have helped to mature as best I have could and I’m happy. Romain Faivre, he has something that few players have: he breaks lines,” Henry told So Foot.

TBR’s view – Faivre would be a stunning signing for Leeds

He is the French version of Stuart Dallas. This season, Faivre has proved to be brilliant for Brest – but done that in numerous positions. That is, on the right or left midfield, in central midfield, on the right or left of the attack – or even as a number 10.

He has remained a regular, he has scored five and created three, and he has picked four France Under-21 caps – in which he has scored twice netting goals in games against Licheinstein in October and November. £16million is a bargain.

Certainly, the last player Leeds signed from France for around that region in terms of price, has done okay – hasn’t he?
