Leeds United have made contact with Crystal Palace regarding a potential move for James McCarthy, with 90 Min reporting that West Ham United and Newcastle have also enquired about the 29-year-old.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are gearing up for their return to the Premier League after clinching the Championship title this past season.

90 Min reports that McCarthy’s top flight experience appeals to the Whites. And it is claimed that Leeds are amongst a number of clubs to have approached the Eagles about a move for the Republic of Ireland international.
The report claims that the Hammers, Magpies and Aston Villa have made similar approaches. 90 Min claims that Palace will want to make most of the £8 million they paid for the former Everton man back before they sell him.

The report adds that that asking price is unlikely to put off any of his admirers. So it may come down to which move appeals most to McCarthy.
TBR View: McCarthy could be a shrewd addition to Leeds’s squad
Some may have their concerns about a move for McCarthy, who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. He has previously struggled with injury.
However, he featured in 33 league games this past season. And given that Palace will reportedly accept less than £8 million for him, he may prove to be a shrewd addition to Bielsa’s ranks.
The Leeds boss has superbly utilised the versatility of a number of players within his squad. And McCarthy is someone who offers flexibility as he can play in holding, central or attacking midfield.
But if Leeds do indeed want to sign McCarthy, they are going to have to see off some competition from their new divisional rivals.
