Leeds predicted lineup vs Spurs: Phillips, Rodrigo and Poveda start
Leeds United return to action on Saturday looking to bounce back from their hugely disappointing defeat last weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side face Tottenham Hotspur also looking to atone for their heavy defeat in North London earlier on in the season.
Leeds were without a few key men against Brighton. And it is arguably fair to say that no player’s absence hurt the Whites more than Kalvin Phillips’s.
The encouraging news is Bielsa labelled the injury that kept him out ‘a knock’ after Saturday (via Leeds Live). So perhaps, there may hope that he could feature against Spurs. If he is fit, he must start.
Leeds fans will also be incredibly keen to see Raphinha return. The Whites look significantly more dangerous when he is in the side.
However, Leeds are arguably able to take a more cautious approach with Raphinha’s return. They have options if he is not quite ready.
And it may be out wide where Bielsa may throw a curveball. Ian Poveda was arguably Leeds’ most exciting player at Brighton, so the £1 million starlet may be rewarded with a full Premier League debut.
That may see Stuart Dallas move back to left-back. Gjanni Alioski made a major error to give away a penalty at Brighton. And as he also gave away a spot-kick in the previous meeting with Spurs, it may be time to take him out of the side.
A gamble is taken on Mateusz Klich. The Poland international has struggled lately. But on his day, he could be the ideal option alongside Rodrigo, who returns to the starting lineup in the number 10 role.
Liam Cooper could come into contention with his suspension served. But Bielsa has been given little reason to swap out Pascal Struijk.
With that in mind, here is the XI in full…
