Leeds United are going to be without key defender Luke Ayling for the immediate future due to his injury setback and that’s a colossal blow to the team.
The Whites have confirmed that the 28-year-old is set to be sidelined for two months after sustaining an injury in his right knee.
He has played a key role so far this campaign in Marcelo Bielsa’s side and the Yorkshire giants will have to find a way to keep up their promotion bid without him.
The attack-minded right-back offers a great deal when he pushes into the final third, but vitally he’s a strong defender too that is a reliable part of the backline.
His importance at Elland Road was highlighted last season when he missed four months in the second half of the campaign with an injury.
Leeds won just three of the 19 Championship matches (16%) that he was unavailable for and that ultimately saw their play-off hopes fall away.
In comparison, they won 14 of the 27 league games (52%) he did play in last season and that stats prove his quality.
Ayling has been a vital part of Leeds’ strong start to this season that has helped them climb to second in the league table and fans should be alarmed by the 27-year-old’s absence.
But the Whites look in much better shape under Bielsa this term and it will be a great test to see how they adapt in the next two months.
