Leeds now pushing to sign £3m player compared to Gareth Bale as he prepares to leave his club

Leeds are facing a seismic end to the summer transfer window after Daniel Farke saw his Championship Play-Off finalists raided by the Premier League.

The Whites lost Archie Gray to Tottenham in a £30m deal before Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham in a £25m move – Georginio Rutter then also departed Elland Road for Brighton.

Now – however – Daniel Farke is looking to bring a forward to Leeds who has previously torn the Championship apart…

Leeds want Manuel Benson

Sacha Tavolieri has now revealed that Leeds are very keen to sign Manuel Benson from Burnley.

The Belgian journalist states that the Angola international is “about to leave” Turf Moor after Scott Parker decided he was surplus to requirements, having left the winger on the bench in Burnley’s opening two Championship games.

Tavolieri adds that Sunderland are also keen to sign Benson, while Norwich will be too if Jonathan Rowe ends up leaving Carrow Road for Marseille.

Leeds have also been linked with Rowe – but a move to France seems more likely.

Tavolieri also mentions that Leeds will have no issues agreeing personal terms with Benson, who earns £25,000-a-week at Burnley.

As aforesaid, the Burnley No.10 has previously shone in the Championship after joining the Clarets in a €4m (£3m) move from Royal Antwerp in August 2022 – scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 33 appearances as the Clarets won England’s second tier in April 2023.

Daniel Farke will finally have some balance to his attack

Despite the departures of Gray, Summerville and Rutter, Leeds still have some great players, such as Wilfried Gnonto and Daniel James.

However, the pair are both right-footed forwards.

That is fine for Gnonto as he tends to cut inside from the left flank, although the balance of Farke’s attack is off with another right-footer in James playing on the right.

In Benson – however – Leeds would have a dangerous outlet down that side, who has previously caused havoc when cutting inside on his stronger left foot, scoring a number of special goals.

It is this tendency to cut inside and shoot which led Patrick de Koster, the forward’s agent, to compare the 27-year-old to Gareth Bale of all players.

The Burnley Express quote him as saying: “He is a very, very technical attacking player, a left-footed winger, great on the ball and at his best when deployed on the wing. Like Gareth Bale. Rapid, fast, great acceleration and an eye for goal.”

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Leeds could sign Benson quite easily given his realistic personal terms, coupled with the fact Burnley are happy to sell.
