Leeds now interested in ‘incredible’ playmaker, they’ve sounded out January transfer
The Whites have moved to bring in two players this month, with Georginio Rutter and Maximilian Wober making the switch to Elland Road.
But Marsch will be eager to make the most of any opportunities in the transfer market and Zaniolo is seemingly set on leaving the Italian capital.
The ‘incredible’ Italian playmaker has struggled in terms of his form for Roma this season but he has been a key player under Jose Mourinho in Serie A.
And it seems that Leeds hold an interest in signing the 23-year-old, but they will face stiff competition for his signature.
Leeds interested in Zaniolo
CMW reports that Zaniolo is ‘fed up’ with life at the Serie A club after he was booed by his own fans during Roma’s 1-0 win over Genoa earlier this month.
The Italian outlet states that he is receiving plenty of interest from clubs in London, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle and Leeds have already sounded out a possible January move but they are deemed ‘less popular destinations’ for Zaniolo.
The Italy international mainly operates as an attacking-midfielder but he has proven to be a versatile player during his time in Italy.
He’s struggled under Mourinho this season as he’s only managed five goal contributions in 17 appearances.
Despite his recent dip in form, Zaniolo would be a brilliant addition to Leeds’ squad but it seems unlikely that he will complete a switch to Elland Road anytime soon.
The Whites have already brought in Rutter this month, who is of a very similar profile to the Roma star in terms of the positions he can fill. With Roma valuing the player at around £26 million, it would be a massive surprise if Marsch’s men parted with this amount of money after signing Rutter.
Leeds will also have to compete with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea for his signature, which could put the player out of reach for the time being.
