Leeds need to prioritise a new contract for Patrick Bamford – TBR View

Despite a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday night, it’s been a positive return to the Premier League for Leeds United and they have helped light up the top-flight on their return.

The Whites have accumulated 10 points from their opening seven league matches and a lot of their success has been down to the form of their frontman.

Patrick Bamford has scored in each of Leeds’ three victories so far, including a stunning hat-trick in a recent 3-0 win away to Aston Villa.

The English centre-forward is already up to a tally of six league goals and is proving the doubters wrong that claimed he would be unable to cut it in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s influence on the 27-year-old at Elland Road has been massive, as he’s now a striker playing with confidence in the final third and he fits the system so effectively by doing so much work off the ball as well as on it.

With Bamford becoming such a key part of the Leeds XI, it’s slightly alarming to note that he’s now inside the final two years of his contract and his deal is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

He played such a vital role in promotion from the Championship last season and is now repaying the manager’s faith in the Premier League, so it’s important that they secure his long-term future.

It seems like the perfect time to reward Bamford with a contract and it should give him even more of a boost moving forward, as he’s earned the right to be the club’s number nine right now.
