Leeds must avoid history repeating itself amid Michael Olise reports

The early signs suggest that Leeds United missed a trick not signing Eberechi Eze during the summer transfer window.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had seen first-hand how good Eze had been in the Championship. So it was no surprise to see the Whites linked with the 22-year-old following their promotion to the Premier League (via The Sun).

Ultimately, Eze would seal a move to the top flight. However, it was Crystal Palace who landed the attacking midfielder’s signature. And the deal has proved to be a masterstroke from the Eagles.

Eze has taken to life in the Premier League superbly. And arguably his brightest moment so far came when he scored a stunning free-kick against Leeds at Selhurst Park last month.

It is not clear how serious Leeds’s interest in Eze was, or whether they would have been an option that he would have considered.

But his start to life at Palace should certainly come into Leeds’s thinking amid reports that they are once again battling Roy Hodgson’s side for one of the Championship’s brightest talents.

According to the Sunday People (20/12; page 53), Palace lead Leeds in the race to sign Michael Olise  from Reading.

Olise has been sensational for the Royals. He has scored four goals and contributed seven assists. And it appears that he is attracting a lot of attention.

Remarkably, a separate report from 90min claimed that Reading already want more than £30 million for Olise. So it will be interesting to see whether that asking price deters his admirers.

Of course, that would be a huge price to pay for the teenager at this stage of his career. But having seen Eze make the step up so seamlessly, Leeds will surely be wary of seeing another fantastic prospect move from the second tier to Crystal Palace.
