Leeds United have made a number of new signings this summer and there’s talk more could arrive before the window shuts.

A new striker is said to be the one position Leeds might look to add to and Jesse Marsch has even been speaking about the club’s decision to go for a new forward or not. However, according to Leeds Live’s Beren Cross, there is a feeling inside the club that Joe Gelhardt could be their man, and that’s why a new striker might not arrive.

“One of their key arguments is avoiding a block in the path of Gelhardt’s development. Rodrigo’s goals have also pushed him into the debate at the right time for the club to believe he’s another reason they don’t need another striker,” Cross said in response to a fan question.

Gelhardt is highly-rated at Elland Road and after featuring last season, is fully expected to play a big role under Jesse Marsch this coming season.

Labelled as an ‘incredible‘ talent, the youngster was signed from Wigan and fast-tracked into the first-team picture after shining for the Leeds 23s.

TBR’s View: Gelhardt Can Produce For Leeds

We saw last season the big problem Leeds had when Patrick Bamford was injured and it does seem a little odd for them to not to fully address that this time around.

However, when you see how good Gelhardt is at times and the goals Rodrigo has started this season with, you can see the club’s consideration when it comes to not signing a new player.

Of course, Jesse Marsch will probably want someone new and would welcome a top striker. But if not, then Joe Gelhardt is one of the best youngsters in the country and Leeds have a real diamond on their hands.
