Mateusz Klich joined Leeds United for £1.5million (Yorkshire Evening Post) back in 2017 and he’s turned out to be a brilliant value-for-money signing.
The Poland international has been an ever-present in the Whites team since Marcelo Bielsa arrived as manager in the 2018 summer and hasn’t looked back since.
He started every league match during the 2018/19 campaign to assert himself as a real fan favourite and started this season in a similar fashion.
Ex-Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford was extremely complimentary of the 29-year-old just a month into this season and it turns out he was spot on with his assessment.
He’s continued to be a massive part of the Yorkshire giants since signing a new contract with them in November and has once again started in every league match so far this campaign.
“He’s (Klich) another player that has been vitally important to the Leeds United team,” Beckford told Football League World back in September.
“He always seems to put himself in the right place at the right times. He makes very few mistakes and he’s also a very exciting player.
“I think getting him to sign a new deal will only help to boost the confidence around the place that little bit more. That’s like another new signing.”
Leeds sit top of the Championship table with nine league games remaining, albeit football is currently suspended due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Klich signing a new contract coincided with a seven-game winning streak in the league that strengthened their automatic promotion bid and he was playing some of his best football then.
The box-to-box midfielder has also been at the heart of the team’s current five-game winning run that has catapulted them back on top of the league and is a real talisman for his side.
Klich’s value has been known within Leeds’ walls for some time now, but he deserves more recognition across the Championship and is such a consistent performer with his immense work-rate in the centre of the park.
