Leeds may now be made to wait to sign 'exceptional' player as well as De Ketelaere, says journalist

Leeds United could be made to wait for Manchester City to sanction a loan move for midfielder James McAtee.

The Daily Mail report that the Whites are among the clubs who are interested in having the talented Englishman in their ranks for the coming season.

But Give Me Sport claim that City may not make a decision on the midfielder’s future until late on in the transfer window.

Leeds are already playing a waiting game over Charles De Ketelaere, who prefers AC Milan, but could move to Elland Road nonetheless, even if that hope is now fading.

Leeds may have to wait for McAtee

Journalist Dean Jones said: “I think that it’s something Leeds are looking at and they’re interested in him.

I don’t think anyone is convinced that Manchester City will let him out, so they might have to wait until the end of the window.

“I think McAtee is also cautious about making sure he lands at a club where he gets opportunities, so there’s still lots to do there.”

McAtee’s quality has been described by Pep Guardiola as ‘exceptional‘ and there is obviously a reason so many clubs want him.

He has to prove he can do it week-in, week-out in the Premier League and a loan move could be exactly the best way to do that.

That said, Phil Foden did not ever go on loan and his development was best served working with an elite manager and quality playmakers to get to the level he is at today.
