Leeds reportedly want 37-cap star who 'leaves the last drop' on the football pitch

Leeds are reportedly keen on signing Uruguayan midfielder, Nahitan Nandez, as Marcelo Bielsa looks for midfield additions this summer.

Reports today from La Nuova suggest that Nandez has emerged as a serious target for the Whites. As reported by TBR, it’s suggested the Elland Road club could be prepared to pay around £30m to bring Nandez to Yorkshire.

That is said to be the release-clause in the contract of the Cagliari star.

It’s claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is a huge fan of the midfielder. Nandez has been a regular for Cagliari since 2019, and has won 37 caps for his country.

Is It Harder To Win Than The Euros Than The World Cup?!

And if the comments by his agent from 2019 are anything to go by, then Leeds fans can be quite excited by the prospect of Nandez.

“I had no doubts about him adapting to Italian football. It’s a perfect league for his characteristics,” his agent Pablo Bentancur told Calciomercato.

“Nandez is certainly a great player. The fans always like him because he leaves the last drop of sweat on the pitch.”

In that same interview, Bentancur was also coy on links at the time which suggested Inter Milan wanted Nandez. Given the Nerazzuri went onto win the Scudetto, it must mean then-boss Antonio Conte had high thoughts of the Uruguay ace.

Leeds looking to improve and Nandez fits the bill it seems

One thing Leeds cannot afford to do this summer is stand still. A quick look at Sheffield United will tell them all they need to know.

They need strength in depth. But they also need quality, and players who can come in and immediately impact the first XI.

Nandez, on the face of things, would appear to fit that bill. He’s energetic, loves to get stuck in, and can create too. Basically, he has all the hallmarks of a Marcelo Bielsa player.

£30m might seem a lot. But Leeds need new blood, and that’s what it might cost to ensure another year of success.
