Kalvin Phillips received a raft of messages after reacting on Instagram to the news that the Leeds United midfielder had received his first call-up to the England squad.
Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for next month’s games with Iceland and Denmark. The 24-year-old has been outstanding in the Championship over the last two seasons.
And he will now get the chance to impress at English football’s top table with Leeds sealing promotion to the top flight last season.
Unsurprisingly, Phillips was keen to take to social media following the announcement. The midfielder insisted that he was honoured to be included by Southgate.
Plenty of Leeds teammates sent messages of support for the academy graduate. But there were also several opponents and former teammates who reached out to Phillips.
Amongst those to respond were the likes of Jack Clarke, Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson.
The trio all sealed moves away from Leeds one year ago so they each had the chance to witness the full transformation Phillips enjoyed following Marcelo Bielsa’s appointment.
Meanwhile, former Leeds favourites Fabian Delph and Robert Snodgrass both sent messages of encouragement.
There was also a message of support from Jack Grealish. The Aston Villa talisman was arguably the most surprising omission from the squad, but he produced a classy touch with his reply.
Here is Phillips’s post on social media along with some of the responses…
