Leeds star will hope to emulate former player if he makes Norwich move

Leeds United missed out on their promotion dream this season, losing 4-3 on aggregate in the play-off semi-final to Derby County.

The Whites held a comfortable lead inside the top-two of the division for a lot of the campaign but some sporadic form saw them pipped at the post.

Leeds supporters will expect to see their team go again next season, although they might now lose some players following their promotion failure.

According to the Daily Mail, Kalvin Phillips is attracting vast interest, with Norwich City one of the club’s keen on securing his services.

The central midfielder enjoyed a fine campaign for the Whites and is seen as someone who can go on and become a Premier League star.

Emulating a former White

If the Canaries are successful in their attempts to land Phillps, they will hope to see the 23-year-old make a similar impact to Jonny Howson who made the same switch in 2012.

The midfielder became a cult hero at Carrow Road, developing a strong rapport with the club’s supporters. In five years he netted 23 goals and registered 20 assists.

Phillips is cut from a similar cloth to Howson. Both rose through the ranks at Elland Road, both like to get stuck into tackles and both have tremendous work rate qualities.

There is always an element of risk when newly promoted teams pluck players from the Championship ahead of their maiden campaign back in the top-flight. At £12 million (Daily Mail) Phillips looks a steal, however.

Daniel Farke has built a solid young squad at Norwich and Phillips would further enhance his quota of young talent.

At 23-years-old, Norwich would still retain some sell-on value on such a player, whilst Leeds will be left wondering what might have been had they reached the Premier League themselves.
