Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark could reportedly be on the move this summer with Bristol City looking to land the Irish defender for £7million – and Leeds United have got to rival their opening-day opponents.
Leeds take on Bristol City on Sunday afternoon at Ashton Gate, as they look to go one better during 2019-20 and finally return to the Premier League for the first time since the club were relegated in 2004.
However, Leeds will be without Pontus Jansson after he joined Championship rivals Brentford. The Whites have brought in Ben White from Brighton, but they need another defender.
An experienced centre-back is required to replace the loss of the colossal Sweden international, who left for a bargain £5.5million. Newcastle’s Clark would be an excellent option, given his wealthy experience.
The Daily Mirror reckon Bristol City want to sign the former Aston Villa defender this summer for the seven-figure fee, after they sold Adam Webster to Brighton for a whopping £25million.
Clark, 29, has enormous experience in the Premier League – clocking up 165 top-flight appearances and he is in the twilight of his career. However, he only managed 11 Premier League appearances last season.
Newcastle boast Florian Lejeune, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar ahead of Clark in the pecking order, making him somewhat surplus to requirements. Leeds have got to rival Bristol City for his signature.
