'Leeds have got a proper player': Ian Wright says £20m Victor Orta signing is reminding him of World Cup winner
Ian Wright has told the Wrighty’s House Podcast that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is reminding him of World Cup winner N’Golo Kante.
Adams has been in brilliant form for Leeds since Victor Orta brought him to the club for £20 million from Red Bull Leipzig over the summer (Sky Sports).
The 23-year-old has adjusted to Premier League football with ease and has already become a key figure in Leeds’ midfield.
Adams has carried his impressive form into the World Cup and has put in two eye-catching displays for the USA.
He was a standout performer for Gregg Berhalter’s men against England on Friday and his display has led to high praise from Wright.
Wright compares Adams to Kante
“Flowers for Tyler Adams because when he went to Leeds and you see him play a little bit you think he can handle it here,” Wright told the Wrighty’s House Podcast.
“I watched him in the first game against Wales and it was a fairly easy game for him. In that game yesterday [against England], I got Kante vibes in the way he was snuffing and intercepting, tackles. I got that kind of vibe.
“People are going to say ‘you’re comparing him to Kante’, I’m not. I haven’t seen somebody that good at what he’s doing for a long time in that position – since that Kante vibe.
“If there’s something over there, he’s over there snuffing it out. He’s like how Kante was. He’s like a magnet to the ball where the problems are going to come.
“He was fantastic. Again, I’ve not seen too much of [Weston] McKennie as I’ve just seen little bits of him, he is something as well.
“I believe that in Tyler Adams, Leeds have got a proper player.”
Adams put in a seriously impressive display against Gareth Southgate’s men on Friday and is already captain of his national side at just 23.
America were largely the better side on Friday and will feel aggrieved to have not picked up all three points of the day.
Leeds have seemingly unearthed a gem in Adams as he continues to impress on the world’s biggest stage.
