Leeds United academy ace Sonny Perkins has “really impressed” staff at Elland Road, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The Whites signed the 18-year-old this summer after his deal with West Ham expired.

Perkins was prolific for the Hammers, registering 12 goals and one assist in 21 Premier League 2 appearances.

The youngster also registered five goal contributions in four outings for the Under-18s.

And for Leeds, Perkins has very much picked up from where he left off.

This season, he has registered six goals in five Premier League 2 appearances for the Whites.

Perkins has also dazzled for England’s Under-19s this month.

He scored the opening goal of the game against Denmark U19s, before assisting the Three Lions third goal of the game.

This came after a hat-trick on Saturday against Georgia and another goal against Montenegro last Wednesday.

Thornton, speaking to GiveMeSport, says Perkins has “really caught the eye” at Thorp Arch.

“Yeah, Perkins in particular,” he said when asked who stood out at Leeds. “He’s hit the ground running since he came in.

“Leeds have been really impressed with him; he looks like he’s a real talent.

“So, I know that they’re really, really pleased with the way that he’s adapted. He’s really caught the eye and done well.”

The Athletic recently reported that West Ham are still furious about his summer exit, and how it came about.

Hammers icon Mark Noble had previously labelled Perkins as ‘superb‘, and he looks to have a bright future in the game.
