Leeds have a top talent coming through the ranks, been compared to Aguero - TBR View
Leeds United may have struggled early on this Premier League season, but overall, things are looking good at Elland Road.
The Whites brought an end to 16 years out of the top flight in 2019-20 and then enjoyed a superb campaign back in the big time, finishing ninth.
While results haven’t been great in the league so far, the Whites should find their feet and enjoy a decent season.
Leeds got a big confidence boost on Tuesday night as they reached the last 16 of the League Cup following a penalty shootout win over Fulham.
Linked to that, there are some top talents coming through the ranks at Thorp Arch, some of whom featured at Craven Cottage.
One of those is Joe Gelhardt, who made his Leeds debut off the bench against the Championship high-flyers.
Marcelo Bielsa rewarded the 19-year-old with his debut following his heroics for the Leeds Under-23s in recent months.
Gelhardt only arrived at Elland Road in August last year but his tally at age level for Leeds is superb – 15 goals and four assists from 22 appearances.
The teenager came on for Mateusz Klich in the 69th minute.
Though he didn’t have much of a chance to shine in open play, he scored a superb penalty under huge pressure from the home support.
Talent, potential, nerves of steel – Gelhardt really looks like a star in the making.
Fans have compared him to the likes of Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero.
Could Gelhardt go on to achieve similar glory with Leeds? Certainly one to watch.

“Joffy is going to be good, he reminds me, I don’t want to say the same level of Rooney, but he’s the same sort of build that Rooney was, a stocky lad, great finisher.”#LUFC pic.twitter.com/jXZw0jzQFE
Definitely the former, he's a bulldog. Reminds me more of a Tevez type rather than Rooney.— Matt (@worldiematt) February 25, 2021
Gelhardt reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney #wafc— Peter Hamilton (@Ashtoncrouch) July 27, 2019
Gelhardt reminds me of Carlos Tevez. Short, but strong as an ox; excellent dribbler and fierce shot. Also loved the way he threw himself in front of a defender, blocking a clearance in the build up to his second.— Matt (@worldiematt) February 7, 2021
I think thats more so only because of his position.— Melbourne White (@_TheBaron__) July 22, 2021
Bate will cover for KP, Dallas, Phillips.
Both are increadible prospects, Gelhardt is clearly one of the best u/19 forwards in England. His power, build and technical ability reminds me of Aguero, rather than Rooney.
Great sum up Tom & Yes, Gelhardt will be a future star. Reminds me a bit of a young Wayne Rooney mate.— Peter Charnley (@SirTom70) February 8, 2020
