Leeds United got their pre-season programme under way with a 0-0 draw against Manchester United in Saturday’s friendly in Sweden.

The Whites have been busy on the transfer front this summer, making five signings as they look to make their squad competitive in the Premier League.

Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson all made their non-competitive debuts for Leeds as starters, while Sean Longstaff came off the bench.

Plenty of Leeds fans on social media gave their thoughts on each of their players, with one debutant in particular getting plenty of praise.

Leeds United fans praise Jaka Bijol display against Manchester United

Bijol played the first half for Leeds, and he delivered a solid display which led to Whites fans backing him to do well in the Premier League.

“Defence looks strong. Like Bijol a lot already,” one Leeds supporter wrote on X.

Another said: “Solid first half that! Really happy, Bijol looking sharp and solid too!”

The praise for Bijol kept coming, with one fan writing: “Early days but I like the look of Bijol.” Another said: “Bijol is solid, hard to beat.”

Another said: “Bijol is a level above all our CBs,” while another wrote: “Other than the first game it’s nailed on Bijol and Rodon as centre-half pairing.”

Leeds’ next pre-season game is against Villarreal on 2 August.

Daniel Farke’s charges are then scheduled to take on AC Milan on 9 August before opening their Premier League campaign against Everton nine days later.

Why Jaka Bijol is unavailable for Leeds United’s Premier League opener

Leeds will sadly be without Bijol for their Premier League opener against Everton at Elland Road on 18 August.

The £15million man received a red card in his final Serie A game of last season, in which Udinese lost 3-2 at home to Fiorentina.

Leeds were aware of Bijol’s red card when they moved for him, but it was unclear whether the suspension would carry over from Serie A into the Premier League.

That has now been clarified, and Bijol will now miss the Toffees clash. The earliest he will be able to make his competitive debut will be against Arsenal on 23 August.
