Leeds fans wishing club had kept Pierre-Michel Lasogga

Leeds United fans are frustrated on Twitter after seemingly missing out on automatic promotion to the Premier League following their 2-0 loss to Brentford – and fans reckon letting Pierre-Michel Lasogga leave has backfired.

Neal Maupay and Sergi Canos scored goals either side of half time to leave Leeds three points adrift of Sheffield United in second place. With two games left, it look as though the Blades are set to gain promotion.

Many feel the problem with Leeds this season, and the difference between themselves and the likes of Norwich City, has been their ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

The creativity has been there, the defence and the work rate have been there, but not the player to go and score 25 goals in a season. Norwich have Teemu Pukki, Sheffield United boast Billy Sharp.

Leeds’ top scorer is Kemar Roofe on 14 goals. Fans are aware of that stat and believe the club needed to sign a striker that could find the back of the net on a more regular basis – more so than Patrick Bamford.

Lasogga – who is earning £50,000 a week at Hamburg (Yorkshire Evening Post) – scored 10 goals in 33 league and cup appearances for Leeds during his season-long loan spell.

It has seen some Leeds fans claim that they regret the club’s decision to allow Lasogga to return to German side Hamburger SV after his loan had expired. This season, the powerful German has scored 19 goals in 27 games.
