Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Leeds star Joe Gelhardt during the Yorkshire side’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon in the Capital.
Gelhardt, 19, was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up as Leeds traveled south to take on Tottenham. It was his first Premier League start.
The ex-Wigan academy product was excellent, putting his body about against a back three of Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies.
The teen’s hold-up play was strong and he even engineered a couple of half chances for himself, too. Dan James scored his side’s only goal.
But Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon scored second-half efforts to secure three points for Tottenham. Gelhardt earned praise from Redknapp.

“He’s like a human wrecking ball. I like him; he’s really exciting. He’s fast; he’s aggressive; he gets on the ball, he takes people on.
“Once he gets into the box, he loves it; that’s where he can do most of his damage,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports, as per Leeds Live.
Redknapp on Gelhardt: Leeds fans will love pundit’s verdict
Leeds fans have been excited at the prospect of seeing Gelhardt in the senior side, ever since he joined the club from Wigan in 2020.
The Liverpool-born attacker has scores 17 goals for the club’s second string in 26 games – helping Mark Jackson’s U23 outfit win promotion last term.
Little surprise, then, that he is earning his place in the senior side at the moment. He came on as a sub against Wolves; winning a penalty to draw.
His performance against Tottenham and Redknapp’s verdict will see the hype continuing to circle around Gelhardt. A brilliant start.
