Leeds fans will love Raphinha response as he's asked if he wants to play in Champions League soon

Raphinha has told AS that he would love to play in the Champions League with Leeds United after being asked if he would like to be involved with the competition in the near future.

The Brazil international may have surprised some when he decided to leave Rennes for Elland Road last year. It came as the Ligue 1 side prepared for the group-stages of the Champions League.

However, Raphinha appears to have taken his game to another level with Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He has certainly established himself as their talisman this season.

The 24-year-old has five goals in the Premier League already this term. And with that, questions are already being asked about how long Leeds can hold onto him for.

ANTONIO CONTE WILL BE A SPURS DISASTER.

Whites fans have always tended to be realistic about what his future holds. And with Bielsa’s men currently in the bottom-half of the table, some may fear that his departure may come sooner than previously expected.

Certainly, it seems likely that he is going to be asked about his future in almost every interview he now takes part in.

But perhaps Leeds have been given reason for cautious optimism. Raphinha was asked whether he wants to be playing in the Champions League in the near future. And he appeared to drop a clear hint that getting there with Leeds would be ideal.

“Of course it is. I am very happy at Leeds and hopefully we can play the Champions League,” he told AS.

Leeds still face uphill battle keeping Raphinha, but signs of progress may go a long way

Obviously, Leeds are still some way off Champions League football. In fact, their focus right now needs to be on pulling away from the bottom three.

But Raphinha’s comments must give Leeds some hope. Should they continue to show signs of progress, they may stand a better chance of convincing him to stick around for longer.

A couple more signings as inspired as Raphinha, and Leeds should be flying up the table.
